For about 15 years, it has been necessary in almost all retrofits to activate or code the vehicle electronics. This process is described in the installation instructions and can be carried out without difficulty by anyone. Coding is a standard procedure that is required for most work on modern vehicles. Most workshops have diagnostic software for this, such as Odis, VCDS, VCP, VC-Tool or CarPort.
If no coding is required, this will be stated in the product attributes. Otherwise, all other products must be “activated” after installation according to the installation instructions. For coding work, we recommend the program VCDS HEX-V2 Professional, as it works easily and similarly to the ODIS tester used by your vehicle dealer.
Any competent workshop knows how coding works. If you still have problems with coding, we will of course be happy to assist you at any time.
Special feature in vehicles with SFD* – identifiable by the PR number NI0:
- These vehicles have a special security feature that was introduced around 2019/2020. It is designed to protect the control units from unauthorized access, manipulation, and cyberattacks. Vehicles with SFD must be unlocked before any coding changes are made; this procedure can be performed, for example, using ODIS or OBD-Eleven.
Special feature in vehicles with SFD2* – identifiable by the PR number NI1, NI7, NI8 or NI9:
- In almost all models from model year 2024 onwards, the further development of the Vehicle Diagnostic Protection Type 2 is used. Based on UNECE regulations, the protection has been tightened even further. These vehicles can no longer be manually unlocked for coding changes or additions. For these vehicles, only use retrofit kits that can be activated online via the manufacturer using a measure code or activation document with license protection. Alternatively, we offer, for example, camera systems as well as wiring kits for tow bars that do not need to be coded into the vehicle control units.
